Supporting the development of oracy, communication, mental health and wellbeing in schools

The UK education sector is facing extraordinary pressure from a mixture of poor recruitment and retention, funding shortages, relentless scrutiny and the plethora of challenges facing families and commuities.

As oracy, mental health and the pursuit and preparing students for employment continue to influence conversations in education settings, we are committed to supporting schools, colleges and universities in developing their ability to positively shape the lives of young people so they can meet the demands of the future.

Having worked extensively in the sector for more than a decade, we care passionately about the life opportunities of young people and love to support schools in developing the confidence, resilience, communication, mental health and wellbeing of both staff and students.

Simon Day MA NPQLT – Education Consultant, CPD Provider & Speaker

The fear of speaking is much more prevalent – and persistent –  than you’d think. Whether it’s a young student battling to find their confidence and identity, a university student preparing for placement or employment interviews, a teacher preparing for a CPD session or promotion interview, or a leader seeking to inspire their colleagues, communication is a vital skill that has a significant impact on outcomes.

Simon Day worked in secondary education for 12 years, mostly as an English and Lead Teacher. During his tenure, he relentlessly focused on oracy as part of classroom pedagogy, student character development and organisational culture. He led on a successful World Class Schools bid in 2023 and fronted multiple successful speech festivals at academy level. An accomplished professional speaker, Simon holds an MA in Creative Writing from Leeds Trinity University and was awarded the National Professional Qualification for Leading Teaching in 2023.

Simon delivers:

  • presentation skills, speechwriting and oracy masterclasses for secondary, further or higher education students, including the empowerment of student leadership teams;
  • in-house or online oracy CPD sessions for staff bodies;
  • presentation skills and communication training for emerging leaders and new senior leadership teams;
  • training for new teachers on classroom confidence and public speaking;
  • consultancy on oracy in the curriculum, the classroom and as part of school culture;
  • sessions and keynotes at education research conferences, festivals and INSET days;
  • coaching and support to school leaders and students in the production of promotional videos and podcasts.

An experienced English teacher and examiner, Simon also provides mock exam marking, consultancy and training services on the AQA English Language specification.
